What to Wear to a Graduation

Some of you, especially college freshmen, probably still have friends who are in high school. It’s that time of year during which while the high school seniors are thinking about which college they’re going to announce at Commencement, we’re thinking “what should I wear?”

graduationGoing back to high school for your friend’s graduation isn’t just about going to support them, it’s about showing everyone how college has changed you, how you’ve grown and matured. As we’ve probably learned by now, this is always reflected in the way you dress.

I would go for a dress that the people from home wouldn’t normally see you wearing but still goes with your general style. Think about it being a more refined version of you. A good option would be this print dress from LuLu*s. I would pair it with these awesome nude wedges from Steve Madden and this blue wristlet from Forever21. Go with overall simple jewelry, except one thing. Choose whatever piece you want – earrings, necklace, ring, etc. – and make it a statement piece (pssst.. these ear cuffs would look awesome!).

Whatever it is you choose to wear don’t forget to be yourself. Serve as an inspiration to all those graduating so they can see the awesome things college can bring you.

I leave you with my favorite picture of my graduation, with my lovely aunt and mother!

So Audrey!: How to Style the Little Black Dress

My birthday is in a few hours, so basically I can talk about anything I want. And it wouldn’t be my birthday if the topic wasn’t Audrey Hepburn; and I wouldn’t be talking about Audrey if I didn’t talk about the Little Black Dress.

When talking about the LBD, one of the most iconic women who represent this style is obviously Audrey Hepburn. She could make a simple black dress the most stunning dress in the room by simply adding some accessories, or just by how she presented herself while wearing it.

lbd_-audrey-hepburn

Every time I’m styling a LBD I think to myself “what would Audrey do?” and inspiration comes to me. I have found that the key to styling a LBD is simplicity, “less is more.” While shopping for a dress to style on this post I came across this beauty at Nordstrom. This is the type of dress I love because it speaks for itself without having to add a million accessories to make it look good. Just add some small sparkly earrings, like the ones I found at Dillard’s, and these simple black pumps by Jessica Simpson and let the dress speak for itself.

NOTE: A very important thing to keep in mind when buying a little black dress is the idea of “quality, not quantity.” I would rather have one really nice black dress than five really cheap-looking ones; think about a LBD as an investment.

This has been by far my favorite post to make. Do you have any role models? Do you follow anyone’s style? I would love to know.

Until next time!

CR

p.s. This post was written while I listened to the beautiful Audrey sing Moon River, there was no other way for it to be written.

What to Wear to a Rock Concert

College is full of fantastic events, and a bunch of them are concerts! A lot of artists target college towns for their concerts because they know we love them and we will do anything to see them. This includes wearing a super cool and super uncomfortable outfit so they notice us. Well let me tell you, DON’T DO IT! Chances are that with your college budget all you could afford were those tickets waaaaaay in the back where you’ll only see your fave singer through a screen. The artist will not recognize you and you’ll be uncomfortable the whole show for no reason. And if you were one of the lucky ones and got super good tickets where the artist can actually see you, being in an uncomfortable outfit will only make you look awkward because you can’t relax and act naturally.

Trust me, I’ve had my fair share of concerts and a wide range of things has happened to me (including a dislocated knee). So believe me when I tell you comfort is key.

concertI always like to wear stuff that’s super edgy, but of course it depends on the type of concert you’re going to. I go to every type of concert you can imagine, but more often than not you’ll see me at rock concerts. To these concerts I usually go for a very rock n’ roll style. A possible outfit could include these awesome Union Jack shorts from Delia*s, with this crochet top from Forever21 and a colorful bandeau like this one from American Eagle. I pair it with some combat boots and a big ring and I am ready to rock!

What type of concerts do you go to? What is your favorite outfit to see your favorite band? Let me know!

P.S. Here is an awkward picture of me and my best friend at the Glamour Kills Tour (before I dislocated my knee)

What Should I Wear to Tailgate?

One of the most notable experiences in college is when we tailgate. It’s an awesome event where you get to support your school, hang out with friends, meet new people, and have tons of fun! Dressing for a tailgate is super simple and it’s all about school spirit.

 cardinals

For this fun event, wear super comfortable clothes (and no, not flip-flops here either). I usually wear some white shorts, like these I found high-waisted ones I found at Delia*s. This will not only help me beat the heat, but I can also get a good tan out of it! I also wear my favorite school t-shirt or tank top (tank tops help you avoid a farmer’s tan!), and very comfortable shoes like Toms or Topsiders.

I always like to wear my fedora (like this one from Forever21) and sunglasses to keep the sun out of my face, and my makeup is usually pretty simple because I know I’ll be moving around a lot and the weather is really warm, so I don’t want to end the day like the girls in Les Miserables. All in all, just have fun! Go support your school and make great memories!

Until next time!

Girls Night Out: What Should I Wear

It’s Friday and your best friend calls you and says “girls night out tonight! Be prepared.” Girls night out is extremely fun because you don’t have to worry about trying to impress anyone; you just have a good time with your best friends, gossiping and laughing and enjoying the night. But like most girls, we stress about what to wear even if we’re just going out with friends.

BQcDAAAAAwoDanBnAAAABC5vdXQKFmJ5eDNKZU5MU251WWJJd29LcGlKU2cAAAACaWQKAXgAAAAEc2l6ZQIt’s because you’re with friends that you can go crazy with your outfit. These are girls that have seen you at your best and at your worst, and you don’t have to impress anyone. I like to wear some skinny jeans with a fun top, like this sequined peplum top from Tobi. I usually pair this with some cool pumps like these absolutely gorgeous spiked pumps from Steve Madden (I know they’re a little over-budget, but seriously… aren’t they so worth it?!). Add a fun clutch and a cuff bracelet and you’re ready to go meet your girls.

girls night outI know the weather is often not kind to us in the summer, and sometimes it’s just too hot to wear pants! So in this case I ditch the jeans and wear a bright mini skirt, such as this one in teal from Forever21.

However you choose to dress, be yourself! You’re going out with your best friends who know you better than most people, so just have fun with it! How do you dress when you go out with your BFFs?

What to Wear on a First Date

First_date*sigh* The first date, when you and that gorgeous guy are getting to know each other, when the spark either ignites or dies completely. Although this is a wonderful occasion, it can also be very stressful. Determining what you’re gonna wear for the first date is one of the hardest decisions ever; you want this guy to see the real you, but in a more… refined way. Therefore, what you wear is crucial to this whole process.

My advice? Never let it be a surprise. Imagine how awful it would be if you were all dolled up for a fancy dinner and you ended up going on a walk through the park. Always look ahead and check out the place where he’s taking you and this way you’ll get an idea of the type of outfit you’re gonna wear.

first_date_outfitIf the date is a nice but casual restaurant, I like to wear my dark skinny jeans, with a simple top like this one at ModCloth, and an eye-catching blazer. The blazer can be either embellished, it can have a cool print or it can be just a bright color. This one from LuLu*s would look great with the top I mentioned.

As for shoes, keep it comfortable. In no way am I saying you can wear flip-flops or (God forbid) Crocs! What I mean is that you should wear shoes you feel comfortable walking in. If you are an expert in walking in sky-high heels, then by all means find the craziest platforms you can find! But not everyone has mastered this technique, so for those of you who are still in the process of doing so, try wearing shorter heels or even some embellished flats would look nice. Accessorize with big jewelry and a simple clutch and go get your man!

first dateHowever, if your date is with a Chuck Bass rather than with a Dan Humphrey (yes, I reference Gossip Girl a lot!), chances are that your date will be a little fancier. In this case my suggestion is to ditch the jeans and blouse and instead opt for a beautiful dress, like this one I found at Tobi. As for everything else, you can choose to keep or ditch the blazer and keep the rest as is.

Ultimately, you want to wear whatever it is that you feel most comfortable with; an outfit that truly represents you. These are just my suggestions, but what would you wear? Tell me in the comments!

Until next time!

How To Wear Neon

As you may have noticed in some of my previous posts, I am completely obsessed with neon colors. I can even dare to say that if you open my closet you will be blinded by the brightness of my clothes. This trend is VERY 1980’s but somehow it has made its way back into our lives, and I’m so glad this happened!

However, lately a lot of people have asked me how they can pull of this fun but risky trend. I completely understand your hesitation to join the “neon world” because you definitely don’t want to go overboard, and you most definitely don’t want to go back to the 80’s. But if you put a little thought into it, anyone can pull this off. You just have to know what suits you best and what you feel most comfortable in.

neon-fashion trend

One way to wear neon is to go all black and white and add a colorful accent; this could be a coat, your jewelry, or even your purse. You can also go all black and wear really bright shoes.

Another way, which is one of my personal favorites, is to wear very bright clothes – a dress, a skirt and top, etc. – and accessorize with neutral colors, such as black.

And my all-time favorite is pairing a bunch of different colors. Pink shorts and a green top, orange dress with blue shoes, you name it – I’ve done it all! People ask me how I do this without going all 80’s and my answer is this: unless you do the gi-normous hair, bushy eyebrows, makeup resembling a rainbow and shoulder pads, you will not look like you came out of a Miami Vice episode.

How do you wear neon? Do you absolutely love it, or do you prefer to stay away from it? Let me know in the comments.

What to Wear to a Beach Party

Beach Party 1Summer is near, and with it comes vacation, sand between your toes, awesome tans, margaritas (ahem… virgin, of course!) and beach parties! These parties are so fun and dressing up for them is even more fun. You are able to play with a bunch of colors and styles; you can dress up or go for a more relaxed look.

SATC 3For a party that is actually at the beach and you’re gonna be partying in the sand, or on a cool boat, I usually keep it very simple and relaxed; think the girls from Sex and the City, minus the sequins. I wear a bright and colorful bathing suit, like this one which I am in LOVE with from Delia*s. And to show off those bright colors I’d wear a see-through cover-up, like the one I found at Tobi. Now comes the part where a lot of people wouldn’t agree with me: I would NOT wear flip-flops! Just because it’s a beach party does not eliminate the fact that it is still a party, and I NEVER wear flip-flops to any social gathering. Instead, I would wear these super cute sandals from Steve Madden in nude. Add a tote, your sunglasses, a floppy hat and very minimal make-up and jewelry and you are set to go.

However, not all parties are at the beach. In some occasions they are indoors, like in a hotel or a nightclub. In this case you can really experiment with different colors and prints. My advice is to wear very light fabrics because the combination of a lot of people and extreme humidity is awful. Also wear wedges, they’re very comfortable and they look good with practically anything.

How do you dress for the beach? Do you put much thought into what you’re gonna wear or do you just throw on the first thing you find? I’d love to know what you think!

What to Wear to a Club

Clubbing2There comes a time in our lives where house parties and hiding in dorms is just not enough, and that is when we decide to go clubbing. We get all excited, we make plans for dinner beforehand, we plan our schedule for the night (even though we know it’s not gonna happen) and then we go to our closets and think “what on Earth am I gonna wear?” It’s happened to all of us, and it’s the worst feeling in the world. It’s just not an easy decision; you want to look modern and cool but you also don’t want to look like the girls from the Jersey Shore (the reality show, not the actual place – no offense!).

Clubbing1I always like to wear something that stands out, but for the right reasons; not because it’s an inch too short or it looks like they ran out of fabric. I usually wear a dress that really stands out, maybe with some sequins or a very bright color. This AMAZING dress from LuLu*s is perfect because it combines both sequins and a bright color! And because it’s so loud its fairly easy to style.

If you are feeling wild and want all the attention (who doesn’t?!), you can pair this with some colorful pumps, like electric blue platforms I found at Zappos. As for accessories, I would go with these super fun earrings from Etsy, a neon pink clutch that you can usually find at a Marshall’s or a TJ Maxx and you are ready to go.

--

I admit that this look is very loud and not everyone like it, so if you want to tone it down wear the neon dress with all black accessories: black pumps, black earrings, and a black clutch.

How do you dress to go to a club? Tell me in the comments!

Until next time!
